Emmanuelle discusses her role in the CSI: NY season finale

Posted on: May 18, 2009 | Filed under: CSI:NY, TV News & Reviews | Comments Off

Please note that the entire post is behind the cut due to the major spoilers within the first few lines. I know most everyone has seen the season finale by now, but many people still haven’t, so I don’t want to be the one to spoil them.

After three seasons on CSI: NY, Emmanuelle Vaugier was fired. Her character, Detective Jennifer Angell, was killed off in the season finale Wednesday due to budget cuts.

“They’re just cutting back to save some money,” the actress told TV Guide magazine.

Vaugier, 32, doesn’t have any hard feelings about getting booted from the series, which stars Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes.

“One of the executive producers called me at home several weeks before we were going to shoot,” she said. “It was right before the script was going to come out. She said, ‘I just wanted you to know first so you didn’t hear it from someone else.’ And she was really great about it. She said, ‘We hate to do this. We’re going to get so much crap from the crew and everybody. Gary doesn’t know yet and he’s not going to be happy.’ It was really sweet.”

In fact, she said “word spread like wildfire” when the cast found out the next day.

“Everybody was really sweet and complimentary,” she said. “There were tears –mostly mine.”

Still, she thinks the decision was a good one.

“It makes sense for ratings to kill off a character that people have grown to like,” she said. “It wasn’t personal. They wouldn’t have kept me for three years if they didn’t like me.”

She added: “I just told them to if they’re going to kill me off they better give me a really cool death. And they did. They wrote a really sad, heartfelt episode. Reading it was awful.”

When it came to filming her death scene with costar Eddie Cahill, she admitted to having a hard time.

“He was emotional. I was emotional,” she said. “It was the last scene of the day at four in the morning, and everyone was tired. I was a mess. I’m not a very good dead person. Eddie said, ‘I could see your eyes were tearing.’”

Her time off the TV screen, however, is short-lived. She will be appearing on the season finale of Two and a Half Men on Monday.

“I’m back to stir the pot after my character splits with her husband,” she said. “[I'm] still carrying a torch for Charlie [Sheen]. Now that I’m off CSI, I’d be happy to go play with them for awhile.”
