Indie shocker no longer in a “Bind”

Dan Walton, a producer on Ryan Nicholson’s GUTTERBALLS and HANGER, has been putting together his own independent horror movie BIND for a few years now. Now he tells Fango that the project is ready to go with a cast including a number of genre veterans.

BIND is an ’80s slasher homage about a group of friends terrorized by an evil presence in the woods during a winter weekend outing, and is set to star Edward Furlong, Emmanuelle Vaugier from SAW II, DOLAN’S CADILLAC and many others, FINAL DESTINATION 3’s Ryan Merriman and Chelan Simmons, Daniel Cudmore, LAID TO REST’s Kevin Gage, 2001 MANIACS Milk Maiden Christa Campbell, original HALLOWEEN heroine P.J. Soles and Jessica Von. “There has been much clamoring in the horror community and fandom in general about delays and dates being pushed back,” Walton (pictured behind the scenes of his BIND teaser trailer) tells Fango. “Not to worry: Everything is moving forward at a steady pace after necessary changes were made with several facets of the overall production.

“My crew and I are striving to bring the very best to the fans and not just put out a rushed movie that looks like just that,” he continues. “There’s too much of that out there already, and we don’t want this to be the norm, but the exception. If it takes a little longer, we want BIND to be something we can all be proud of and not just another example of what belongs in the pile, but rises above that. The finished product, rest assured, is going to be well worth the wait. Stay tuned.”

We’ll keep you updated as BIND heads toward its shoot this winter in Vancouver.

Emmanuelle Vaugier juggles comedy and action in movie, TV series roles

Emmanuelle Vaugier is familiar to TV viewers for trading bullets with bad guys but her latest role sees her tangling instead with French verbs and tenses.

Vaugier is one of the all-star cast in “French Immersion,” a Canadian comedy from some of the same minds behind the buddy cop comedy “Bon Cop Bad Cop” and which is now filming in St-Cesaire, in rural Quebec.

French isn’t a foreign language to Vaugier, whose parents are from France and who brought her up in the language even though they were living in Vancouver.

“I live in Los Angeles so I don’t really maintain it that well other than when I speak to my parents or come to Montreal,” she said. “A nice perk of coming here is I try to speak as much French as I can and can pick it up again.”

Emmanuelle cast in French Immersion

Quebec singer Robert Charlebois, veteran actor Colm Feore and “Dan For Mayor” star Fred Ewanuick are part of a sprawling ensemble cast shooting a bilingual comedy about Canada’s French-English divide this summer.

“Bon Cop Bad Cop” producer Kevin Tierney makes his directorial debut with “French Immersion,” about a group of five English-speakers — one each from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, Ontario and New York — who converge on a small Quebec town to learn French.

“The Trotsky” director Jacob Tierney joins a cast also including “Love and Savagery”‘s Martha Burns, “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” comic Gavin Crawford, “Two and a Half Men”‘s Emmanuelle Vaugier, and “Polytechnique” lead Karine Vanasse.
Charlebois plays a senator who uses his influence to help the French-language school run by his daughter while Vanasse plays a teacher with a heart of gold.
Publicists say shooting takes place over the next six weeks in Saint-Cesaire, Que., about 60 kilometres east of Montreal.

The film is set for release on Canada Day, 2011.

Release Date Set for Mirrors 2

Dread Central recently caught up with director Victor Garcia and got official word that his latest film Mirrors 2 will be hitting DVD shelves on October 19th, 2010 courtesy of 20th Century Fox. The sequel to Alex Aja’s 2008 film starring Kiefer Sutherland now shifts focus to a boutique store in New Orleans run by Max (Nick Stahl). William Katt and Emmanuelle Vaugier also star.

Check out our first set report on Mirrors 2 at our previous article right here.

Synopsis: When Max, a recovering addict, takes a job as a night time security guard job at his father’s department store, he begins to see visions of a young woman in the store’s mirrors. Unsure whether his visions are side effects of his prescription sleeping pills or actual reality, he begins to look deeper into the source of the images in the mirrors. When employees of the store turn up dead and Max is a suspect in the murders, he must expose the girl’s connection to a scandal within the department store’s walls in order to prove his innocence and put a stop to the spirits in the mirrors.

Dolan’s Cadillac is finally being released on DVD on April 6th. You can currently pre-order the widescreen DVD for $16.49 or Blu-ray for $14.49 at Amazon. How weird is it that the Blu-ray is actually cheaper than the regular DVD? That never happens.

Dolan’s Cadillac Teaser Art

Distributor Film Bridge International recently put up the first teaser art for Dolan’s Cadillac on their official site, as the eagle-eyed monstrosities at Quiet Earth noticed today. It’s subtle, that’s for sure, and I can’t say it really grabs the eye too well. The lack of an actual Cadillac is a bit confusing, as well.

Based on the short story by Stephen King, Dolan’s Cadillac stars Christian Slater as James Dolan, a Las Vegas mob boss who kills the wife of peaceful school teacher (Wes Bentley). After he realizes the legal system won’t help him bring Dolan to justice, he takes matters into his own hands via a very elaborate trap in the desert.

The film’s been in various stages of development for almost as long as I’ve been running a horror website, so it’s nice to finally see some real, solid proof that it will be out soon. Keep it here for more Dolan’s Cadillac updates as they roll in!
