First, she played fiesty FBI agent Emma Barnes on Human Target. Now, she’s journalist Liza Hearn on Covert Affairs. In this exclusive interview, actress Emmanuelle Vaugier dished about her time on Human Target and what might be next for her on Covert Affairs.

How did you get involved with Human Target?

I was called in to meet and read for the producers and director, and found out a couple of days later that I had been offered the role of Emma Barnes.

One of the most impressive moments of your first episode (“Embassy Row”) was the sequence where Emma and Chance are handcuffed together. What was that like to film? How difficult was it?

We had a great time filming that scene. It was a little tricky being handcuffed together during a fight scene. It felt more like a dance than a fight.

In 2006, a photo of the beautiful and talented Emmanuelle Vaugier graced the cover of Maxim magazine with a caption that read, “Don’t miss this girl, she’s gonna be huge.” True words were never spoken. Since getting her start in the acting industry over 14 years ago, this Canadian native has appeared in several feature films as well as such popular TV series as Two and a Half Man, Charmed, Monk and CSI: NY, where she can currently be seen helping uphold law and order in the recurring role of Police Detective Jessica Angell. While you may be familiar with her face, you might not know that Vaugier once considered pursuing a very different line of work.

“I’ve always loved animals and I briefly thought about going to school to become a veterinarian,” says the actress. “However, I don’t like seeing animals hurt or even thinking about one dying or being put down, so I probably wouldn’t make a very stable vet as far as my emotional state in that profession.”

Emmanuelle Vaugier recently wrapped up shooting the action-based thriller Dolan’s Cadillac. Based on a Stephen King short story, this psychological thriller finds the Canadian beauty starring opposite Christian Slater and Wes Bentley. Ms. Vaugier is no stranger to thrillers, having appeared in such genre flicks as Saw II and IV, but she manages comedy and drama with equal aplomb. Fans of the network sitcom, Two and a Half Men know her as Charlie Sheen’s love interest, Mia, and CSI: NY fans can welcome her back for her third season as Detective Jessica Angell.

Having a main role in “Saw II,” one of 2005’s most successful horror films, would be enough to convince most actresses they had arrived on the Hollywood scene. But Emmanuelle Vaugier didn’t stop there. Since then, she has portrayed a superhero in the Sci-Fi Channel’s “Painkiller Jane,” and she landed a recurring role on CBS’ top-rated sitcom, Two and a Half Men.

On Two and a Half Men Vaugier plays a ballet teacher who becomes Charlie Sheen’s love interest. “Everything’s very mellow,” she says of filming the show. “It runs so smoothly. There’s never any fighting. Nobody ever raises their voice. It’s just a lot of fun. It’s very telling that a show’s very successful when things run that smoothly.”

Vaugier will once again be in the spotlight when the “Saw II” DVD lands on store shelves February 14. She credits the filmmakers, as well as the marketing department at Lions Gate, for creating a sequel that lives up to its predecessor. “The writers and creators of it were very careful not to let their audience down,” she remarks. “They were dealing with a very sophisticated film audience in general. Plus, the horror genre fan base is so particular about what they see, and they’re so much more sophisticated than they were perhaps 20 years ago. They expect a lot more out of you. If you don’t show them what they want, you’re not going to get very far. So they took a lot of time and care in making sure that we had a great story and the casting was right. The success even goes all the way down to the marketing of it. They just really took their time and were very careful with that. I think that makes a huge difference.”
